Susan, 58, lives in Louisville and enjoys cooking, baking, and doing crafts. She has a number of health issues including fibromyalgia, an auto-immune disorder, and mental health issues. She used to work as a medical assistant, however her health issues now prevent her from working.
Susan’s medical issues impacted her overall dental health, and her primary care physician recommended dental treatment to address her loose and decayed teeth.
How DDS Helped
Susan was referred to the Donated Dental Services (DDS) program and she was linked with a team of generous volunteers:
- Oral Surgeon Dr. David Naselsker performed extractions.
- Dr. Joseph Jacobi donated full upper and lower dentures.
- NDX Affinity Dental Lab fabricated the dentures at no cost.
“My staff and I were very pleased we could give back in this way and when I heard this program was coming to Kentucky I was excited,” said Dr. Jacobi. “This was true charity with no expectation of return—the gratitude of the patients was reward in itself.”
Thanks to this team, Susan was able to receive the gift of dentures for the holidays, as her treatment concluded in the days leading up to Christmas. Susan’s oral health has significantly improved and she can now eat properly again.
“I am so thankful for the DDS Program for getting rid of my diseased teeth and the pain they were causing me,” said Susan. “This is the only way I could get my smile back again.”
