DLN Success Story – Pennsylvania Woman Receives Unforgettable Gift from DDS Volunteers

Luanne, 54, lives alone in the Philadelphia area and has multiple health challenges. She donated a kidney in her 30s that led to complications and additional surgeries. Now, Luanne suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, anemia, connective tissue disorder, and celiac disease.

In addition to her poor health, Luanne’s dental health was in need of attention. She was missing several teeth and had a broken bridge. In constant pain, Luanne needed help with her dental problems but could not afford treatment. Before being placed on permanent disability, Luanne had a steady job that paid well, but now she struggles to make ends meet. It seemed as if she had nowhere to turn for help.

How DDS Helped

Luanne was referred to the Donated Dental Services (DDS) program and she was linked with a team of generous volunteers:
• Oral Surgeon Dr. Steven E. Moriconi performed extractions and gum smoothing procedure.

• Dr. Barry D. Isdaner donated a full upper denture and partial lower denture.

• DeLux Dental Laboratory fabricated the dentures at no cost.

This wonderful gift you have given me is a blessing that I will never forget! –Luanne, DDS Patient

Participating in the DDS program is something that makes the whole DeLux team feel good! Patients in the DDS program are objectively qualified and treatment is coordinated to ensure wise use of doctor and lab resources. A wonderful opportunity to improve the quality of life of people in need. –Joseph Bakanowski of DeLux Dental Laboratory, PA Leadership Council member and DDS Volunteer
