Cancer Patient Receives Lifechanging Care Through the DDS Program

DDS Patient Angel with DDS Volunteer Dr. Shanna Soni

Angel’s Story

Angel, 54, is a proud grandfather who lives alone in New Jersey. He has suffered from serious health problems for many years, including severe gastroparesis, chronic joint pain, and multiple instances of colorectal cancer. After additional chemotherapy and radiation treatment, he is now in remission. Sadly, Angel’s cancer treatment contributed to the deterioration of his dental health. His teeth began to crumble, break, and fall out, and his few remaining teeth were decayed. Angel could not chew properly and was embarrassed to smile in front of people.

Unfortunately, Angel could not afford the treatment he needed to address his extensive dental problems. Before his health challenges, he worked as a technician for a respiratory care company and helped patients set up their oxygen equipment. No longer able to work, he relies on a Social Security Disability benefit that is consumed entirely by his monthly living expenses. It seemed Angel had nowhere to turn for help.

Thankfully, three generous DDS volunteers came to his aid. An oral surgeon extracted Angel’s remaining teeth and root tips and smoothed his jawbone. Then, a general dentist, Dr. Shanna Soni, and volunteer lab partnered to donate full upper and lower dentures. Thanks to these caring volunteers, Angel received thousands of dollars in donated treatment that restored his oral health!

“Thank you for making such a significant difference in my life,” shared Angel. “Your generosity has not only improved my appearance, but has truly been a catalyst for my personal growth and the positive change in my life.”
