Lifeline in Action – DDS Volunteers Help Alabama Veteran With Much Needed Dental Care

Dr. Ross Isbell follows the motto “Excellency by Choice” in the dental practice he shares with his father in Alabama, and it shows. He takes his passion for dentistry and helping others very seriously, as is evident by his dedication to continuing education and learning about cutting edge trends in modern dentistry. One way he takes his passion a step further is by serving as a volunteer in our Donated Dental Services (DDS) program, where he helps individuals in need like Harold.

Harold is a 61-year-old veteran who suffers from several health issues, including heart disease and diabetes. Additionally, his dental health had drastically deteriorated. His small fixed income kept him from getting the dental help he desperately needed. Fortunately, Harold was referred to the DDS program, and was matched with Dr. Isbell.

When performing his initial exam, Dr. Isbell found that Harold had only six teeth remaining. This made eating healthy a challenge. Thankfully, Dr. Isbell was able to extract all of Harold’s remaining teeth and fit him for full upper and lower dentures, which were fabricated by Oral Arts Dental Laboratories of Huntsville at no cost. Harold was extremely grateful for his generous volunteers.

“It was a blessing that I found DDS,” he said. “I now feel more confident speaking with people and I don’t mind smiling. I can eat just about anything and I feel better all around. Thank you so much for helping me.”

Harold is just one example of the numerous individuals Dr. Isbell has helped in his dental career, and many more are sure to come. Dr. Isbell enjoys being able to make a difference in his patients’ lives and overall health, as well as the personal connection he forges with his patients.

“It has been a pleasure getting to know Harold and his family. They are kind, wonderful people and we even had the honor of being invited to and attending his son’s wedding. Our practice is so blessed to be involved with this organization.”  —Dr. Ross Isbell, DDS Volunteer
